We are presenting the artist Aren Shahnazaryan’s first museum exhibition, featuring paintings and drawings.
‘At the heart of my artistic practice is the exploration and questioning of how a picture comes into being through painterly means. In doing so, I continually examine the question of how the painter and the picture influence one another during the painting process. (…) It is not only I who determine the image; the image, too, influences my decisions. It is an interactive process, a relationship between the observed object and its observer. This creates a tension that draws the infinite from the work’s modest scale…«

Biographical details
Aren Shahnazaryan was born in Yerevan (Armenia) in 1991. He studied at the Yerevan Academy of Fine Arts from 2008 to 2012, and at the HfBK Dresden from 2017 to 2022; from 2022 to 2025, he was also a postgraduate student under Ralf Kerbach.
Aren Shahnazaryan has been living and working in Dresden since 2017.
