Hans Theo Richter (1902 - 1969) was a great master as a graphic artist, draughtsman and teacher. In the decades when abstract approaches dominated the international art scene, he persistently adhered to figuration and lent it a particularly intense and humane language. The recipients of the graphic art prize awarded in his name continue Hans Theo Richter's high artistic standards with their fundamentally different styles. To mark the 10th awarding of the Hans Theo Richter Prize, the Saxon Academy of Arts, the Kupferstich-Kabinett der Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden and the Hildegard and Hans Theo Richter Foundation, in collaboration with the Leonhardi Museum Dresden, are organising an exhibition of the previous prizewinners. Many of these artists, such as Max Uhlig, Peter Graf, Lutz Fleischer, Dieter Goltzsche, Claus Weidensdorfer and most recently Hanns Schimansky, have already had solo exhibitions at the Leonhardi Museum. It is now a particular pleasure and honour for us to be able to present them again, this time together with all the other winners of the Hans Theo Richter Prize. The exhibition includes around 60 works by the prizewinners as well as a collection of works by Hans Theo Richter.
